Most of the houses we get called to were built somewhere between 1938 and 1991, with a lot of that stock going up in the 1960s and 70s. That matters because a door installed in 1968 doesn't use the same spring wind, track depth, or opener mount as something put in during the last ten years. When you call, it helps to know a few things ahead of time: whether the door won't open at all, opens partway and stops, makes a grinding or popping noise, or has a visibly broken spring (the coil will be split with a gap in it). Why did my spring break in the middle of winter?
